Introducing my latest pattern: Flock!

Pattern: Flock

Designer: Rachel Henry (that’s me!)

Yarn: Dream in Color Wisp in 712 Brilliant (2 skeins, sample used about 770 yards)

Design/Skills Needed:

Flock is a crescent-shaped shawl worked from the bottom edge up. The main lace pattern features nupps. The curved stockinette body is achieved with short rows (no wraps, just decreases). The top edge is finished with an echo of the main lace pattern that transitions to purls to help fight curling.

Flock is fully charted, except for setup and finishing rows. Complete written translations for all charts are also provided.

Special thanks go out to Dream in Color, which provided yarn support for this design, and also gave me a skein of Wisp to give away! I’m hosting a KAL for Flock in the Remily Knits forum, and I’ll be giving the Wisp away to a KAL-er who uses any DIC yarn for their Flock (and finishes by the end date).

Design/Skills Needed:

Frothy lace at the hem, throat and cuffs make this cozy pullover dramatic and feminine. This pullover is worked primarily in the round. The lacy portions are worked single-stranded; the stockinette portions are worked double-stranded. This makes for a suprisingly quick knit!

Pattern: Mind the Gap

Design/Skills Needed:

Mind the Gap is especially designed for hand-dyed yarn. The puffs consolidate colors, making a finished cowl with color properties similar to the original skein of yarn. Even highly variegated skeins can pop in this fun-to-knit, three-dimensional stitch pattern.

The short pattern repeat makes this an easy pattern to adapt to a variety of yarn weights and sizes.

This cowl may be knit flat or in the round – full directions for both methods are included! Full written directions for all charts are also provided.

Introducing my latest pattern: Levade!

Pattern: Levade

Yarn: Bohemia Fibers Barefoot Bohemian Sock, Peacock #3 (sample used 450 yards of an oversized skein)

Design/Skills Needed:

Levade is a heart-shaped shawl worked from the bottom edge up. Beginning with a very long cast-on edge, the lace swoops through alternating waves, leaves, and medallion motifs. The faster-than-usual decreases create a beautiful shape that clings well to shoulders.

Levade is part of the Airs Above the Ground Collection. Each of four shawlettes in the collection can be made with a single skein of fingering-weight yarn. Look for “Courbette” (sideways, modular, crescent-shaped, lace), “Capriole” (top-down, semi-circular, lace), and “Mezair” (lace border worked sideways, crescent-shaped, short-row body).

Beads: 224 size 6/0 seed beads, AB finish

Design/Skills Needed:

This crescent-shaped shawlette begins with working the beaded lace edging sideways. All beads are pre-strung before knitting begins – no loose beads or tiny crochet hooks! The short-row body is worked from picked-up stitches. More lace finishes the top border of the shawlette, echoing the motifs from the bottom edging.

Mezair is part of the Airs Above the Ground Collection. Each of four shawlettes in the collection can be made with a single skein of fingering-weight yarn. Look for “Courbette” (sideways, modular, crescent-shaped, lace), “Capriole” (top-down, semi-circular, lace), and “Levade” (bottom-up, heart-shaped, lace).

Introducing my latest pattern: Courbette!

Yarn: Blue Ridge Yarns Footlights (“Wild Cherry”) (25 grams each of four different colors)

Design/Skills Needed:

This crescent-shaped shawlette is worked in four sections, each a different color. A combination of faggoting, cables, and points adorn the lower edge of each section; simple garter stitch speeds the knitting and highlights gorgeous yarns. Each subsequent section is connected to the previous section as you go – no sewing!

The sample uses Footlights (by Blue Ridge Yarns), which is sold in color-coordinating bundles of four mini skeins. However, this pattern is well suited to using up leftover fingering weight yarn.

Courbette is part of the Airs Above the Ground Collection. Each of four shawlettes in the collection can be made with a single skein of fingering-weight yarn. Look for “Mezair” (lace border worked sideways, crescent-shaped, short-row body), “Capriole” (top-down, semi-circular, lace), and “Levade” (bottom-up, heart-shaped, lace).

Introducing my latest pattern: Love Lane!

Pattern: Love Lane

Yarn: CEY Provence in two colors; 3 hanks of the main color (2640 “Gunmetal Grey”) and 2 hanks of the contrast color (2682 “Asparagus”) (using 100-gram hanks)

Of Note: The pattern references Provence as coming in 50-gram hanks, which is a new put-up. For clarity, here are my yardage calculations for all sizes:

Sizes XS (S, M, L, 1X, 2X)

Main Color: 475(535, 615, 695, 780, 860) yards
Contrast Color: 335(360, 385, 420, 460, 495) yards

Design/Skills Needed:

This tailored cropped cardigan features a scoop neck and set-in sleeves. Textured bands in a contrasting color adorn the waist and cuffs. All hems are turned for a professional finished look.

All pieces are worked flat from the bottom up and then seamed. The turned hems are tacked in place, and then the collar and button bands are picked up and knit. Special instructions are given for the curve of the neckband to prevent flaring.

Introducing my latest pattern: Sunburst!

Pattern: Sunburst

Yarn: CEY Soft Linen in two colors; 5 balls of the main color (2235 “Winter Pear”) and 2 balls of the contrast color (2204 “Titian Blue”)

Design/Skills Needed:

This triangular shawl is worked from the bottom edge up, which means the rows get shorter and faster as you go. Three distinct tiers of lace pattern help alleviate boredom, and highlight the change in colors. Transition points are softened with alternating rows of garter stitch. Lace knitters will be familiar with basic increases and decreases; this pattern also uses twisted stitches, double yarn-overs, k3tog, and sssk .

The shawl is large and drapey — it can be worn many ways! Check out this beautiful photos from the CEY photo shoot:

Introducing my latest pattern: Broken!

Pattern: Broken

Designer: Rachel Henry (that’s me!)

Yarn: Bohemia Fibers Barefoot Bohemian Sock or any fingering-weight yarn — uses about 450 yards

Design/Skills Needed:

This semi-circular shawlette is worked top-down. Four textured panels extend like spokes of a wheel, interrupted by broken-mesh wedges. The broad cast-on edge curves around your neck, and the full shape hugs shoulders like a shrug. The textured panels use a combination of slipped stitches, twisted stitches, and knit/purl patterns to create a faux cable. The lace panels use yarn-overs, ssk, and s2kp (a double decrease).

The pattern can be extended or shortened in 10-row increments, making it simple to customize the size and use more or less yarn.

The sample shows off the unusual “Walker” colorway by independent dyer Bohemia Fibers. Amy has a knack for creating beautiful and unusual colorways, and is especially well-known for her “inspiration” colorways.

Broken is part of the Lovelorn collection. Each of three shawlettes in the collection can be made with a single skein of fingering-weight yarn. Look for Heartsick (lace border worked sideways, crescent-shaped, short-row body) and Crushed (top-down, heart-shaped, lace and nupps).
